Your First Session: What to Expect

Table of Contents

If you’ve never had professional bodywork before — or it’s been a long time — the not-knowing can keep people from booking longer than the experience itself ever would. Here’s what a first session at Golden Crane actually looks like.

Before You Arrive

A day or two before your session, you’ll get a short intake form by email — a few questions about anything I should know: injuries, conditions, medications, areas you’d like attention, areas you’d rather I avoid. None of it is shared with anyone. The form usually takes about three minutes.

If we’re meeting at the studio, I’ll send the address along with the confirmation. If it’s a mobile visit, you don’t need to do anything special — just clear a space about the size of a queen bed and have a quiet hour set aside.

When You Arrive

We start with a few minutes of conversation. I’ll ask what brought you in today, what you’re hoping for, what your body’s been doing lately. Sometimes people have a clear answer. Sometimes the answer is “I just need an hour where nobody asks me anything.” Both are fine.

Then I’ll step out so you can get on the table. For massage, most people undress to their underwear or fully — whatever you’re comfortable with. You’re under a sheet the entire session, with only the area I’m working on uncovered at any moment. For polarity therapy, you stay clothed.

During the Session

I’ll check in once or twice early on about pressure — you should always feel free to say “more,” “less,” “skip that spot,” or “stay there longer.” After that, most people drift. The room is warm, the music is soft, and your nervous system gets to do what it doesn’t usually get to do.

If anything comes up emotionally — that happens for some people, especially in deeper work — you don’t need to explain it. Bodies hold things. Sometimes they let go.

Afterward

I’ll step out again so you can dress, then we’ll talk for a few minutes. I’ll mention anything I noticed, suggest what might help between sessions, and answer any questions you have. Most people feel a little floaty walking out. Drink some water, take it easy if you can.

That’s the whole shape of it. Nothing fancy, nothing performative — just an hour of attention given carefully.
